When is reindeer meat best available? ▼
Reindeer roundups happen in autumn (September-November), when fresh reindeer meat is most available. Frozen and processed reindeer meat (dried, cold-smoked) is available year-round.
How should reindeer meat be stored? ▼
Fresh reindeer meat keeps 3-5 days in the refrigerator. Frozen reindeer meat keeps up to 12 months at -18°C. Always thaw in the refrigerator, not at room temperature. Dried meat keeps for months at room temperature.
How do I make sautéed reindeer? ▼
Classic sautéed reindeer: Thaw the meat and fry in butter on high heat until browned. Add a pinch of salt and a splash of water. Simmer on low heat 15-30 min. Serve with lingonberry jam and mashed potatoes. Roast cuts need shorter simmering.
